Hello, San Diego! Here's the lowdown on all the cross-cultural events happening in San Diego! On Saturday, Miramar College will host an Indian Ed Youth & Social Powwow. Other festivals (or festive gatherings) on Saturday include Fangaea Pop Culture and Fandom Convention at the Handlery Hotel in Mission Valley and a Multicultural Fair & Family Day in Lemon Grove. On Sunday, the House of Iran will hold its annual Lawn Program celebrating the Nowruz spring holiday. Next Thursday at the Tower Beach Club, Soirée en Egypte will include a singing performance from guest star Yasmina El-Abd and a traditional Egyptian dinner. The 33rd San Diego Latino Film Festival is happening right now with a diverse array of shorts and feature films, as well as events celebrating Latin cultures and experiences. Next Thursday, the San Diego Italian Film Festival will screen the film Rapito (Kidnapped) at the Digital Gym. Next Friday, the weekend-long San Diego Arab Film Festival gets underway at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. There are a number of dance and music events to enjoy around town. Tonight, dutar master Oghlan Bakshi will perform at the La Jolla Community Center as part of the Center for World Music's Passport Concert Series. Also, tonight is Primavera Fest, featuring 12 Mexican regional banda bands performing at the Babylon Palace Banquet Hall in El Cajon. Saturday and Sunday, at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, the Ticitozaá Folklorico Dance Festival will take place. Saturday music events include an evening of Gypsy Jazz & Brazilian Choro music at Paper Moon performed by guitarists Olli Soikkeli and Cesar Garabini, and the Mexican indie rock band Enjabre at the Observatory in North Park. On Monday, the nearly week-long 19th Annual Indian Music & Dance Festival will commence at the JCC. Next Tuesday, Iranian setar master Kourosh Taghavi will give a free mini-concert at the Del Mar Library courtesy of the Center for World Music. Local theatrical offerings include the musical Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 at the Theatre for Young Professionals, The Recipe at the La Jolla Playhouse, SIX (Teen Edition) at Canyon Crest Academy, The Book of Will at Lamplighters Community Theatre, the opera Giulio Cesare at USD (Saturday and Sunday), and the opera Carmen at the San Diego Civic Theatre next weekend. Other notable and interesting events include: a talk at San Diego Archaeological Center on Excavating Southern California’s Lost City on Saturday, the RefugeeNet Story Fest at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (also Saturday), Sunday's Doodle POP performance at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla, and a Sword Casting Class next Tuesday (location TBA).
